The Dreaded Back Wall

You want to get better faster.  Well, after you get done practicing your serve this is my second choice for quick results.  Keep the ball off the back wall.  What I mean by that is not only should your serve not come off the back wall, none of your rally shots should either.

As you play better players, any shot that rebounds off the back wall at any time almost always results in rally over…and not in your favor.  With that said, you might as well learn early to avoid this situation at all costs.

During your serve, remember the golden rule…75% short, 25% aces…no wrap arounds off the back wall.

During the rallies, remember the wide angle pass…better angle…no back wall.  There is nothing more frustrating than passing your opponent perfectly and then having him spin around and roll it out because you came off the back wall.  With your new dedication to “No Back Wall”, a pass ball will always remain a pass ball winner.

In addition, ceiling balls should drop at 39 feet…don’t just blast at the ceiling and think you’ve done a good job.  Ceiling balls off the back wall are the biggest area most players can improve their rallies.  Get out there and see if you can even hit 10 ceiling balls in a row (by yourself)…how about 20?

Count how many times during a game you allow the ball to come off the back wall.  Pay attention to how your rallies finish when this happens.  As you lower your back wall number, you’ll see how much easier it is to beat your opponent.
